Hey you, It’s been a full week of celebrating someone else, realizing my body was more fatigued than I wanted to admit, and talking to peacocks at midnight. Let’s get into it. One Thing to Think About This WeekI saw this Alex Hormozi clip online this week. Someone in the audience was basically saying they work so much that they barely see their kid anymore, and now when they do see her, she doesn’t even get excited. He makes good money. He’s busy at his job. And Alex just asked him straight up… could you make less, hire someone else to help, and actually get that time back? Could you even make back the money you’d lose and still have the time with your kid? The guy said yes. That question has been sitting with me all week. Not because it’s a gotcha, but because it forces you to actually decide what you want instead of just leveling up because that’s the next square on the board. Job, promotion, another promotion, repeat. Family, friendships, fitness… same thing. If you do exactly what you’re doing right now every single day, where are you in a year? And if that answer isn’t satisfying, what are you actually going to do about it? I don’t have it all figured out. But I’m asking myself the question now more and more. Celebrate Your Wins
Productivity Hack of the WeekThis week’s hack is actually a fail, and I think it’s a more useful one than any actual hack. I realized I’ve been outsourcing my own thinking to AI more than I want to admit. I’ll take a half-formed thought, drop it in, and let it tell me what it thinks I should do with it. And sometimes that’s genuinely helpful. But other times I go so deep down that rabbit hole that I forget what I originally thought in the first place. I lose my own thread chasing somebody else’s answer. Same thing happens with content systems. I’ll build something, then the algorithm shows me somebody else’s version, and I like 80% of theirs, so I tweak mine. Then I see a third person’s system and like a different 80% of that. Repeat forever. I end up with a Frankenstein system built from everyone else’s brain except my own, and somehow still not posting anything. The fix I’m trying this week: stay on the surface with my own thought first. Let myself have the idea before I hand it off to anyone else, AI or algorithm. What I’m Into This WeekBook: Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. One line has been rattling around in my head all week: the real measure of any time management technique is whether it helps you neglect the right things. App/Tech: Raindrop’s simple, free, and does what I need to help track recipes, content ideas, inspirational posts, etc from all over. Podcast: Chris Williamson. Still making my way through this episode with Alex Hormozi. So many amazing nuggets Life SnapshotPersonal Wins: I was very mindful of nutrition intake and timing this week. On Thursday, I knew we were having Fajita night so I intentionally ate less and spaced out my protein intake to prep for the fun feast that evening. We were surprised with Cookies tho, so I had to try them... cuz duh. Family Moments: Ledger picked out pink roses for Madison all on his own… pink, specifically, and she got so many compliments on them. He also had a rough moment when he only got five minutes with mama at her work and thought that was the whole visit. Toddler logic is rough sometimes. Meanwhile, while Madison and I were away for the weekend, Ledger and his Nana had the best time… a Target toy run, no bedtime issues, and he slept great both nights. Kid did not miss us one bit. Real-Life Relatability: I had a HIIT day this week where I couldn’t hit the reps I usually hit. No medal, first time that’s ever happened. The medal isn’t the part that matters. What matters is that my body couldn’t do something it’s done plenty of times before, and that’s worth listening to instead of brushing off. Also very relatable: I’ve been so deep in restructuring my content approach that I’ve barely posted anything, which is exactly the opposite of what’s supposed to help. One Last ThingI got a text this week from a friend having a shitty week. I called instead of texting back, and we just caught up. Nothing profound, just checking in. If you’re in a bad mood or a hard stretch this week, don’t wait for someone to check on you. Call somebody. Text somebody. Give someone your time. It costs you something, but it’s worth it every time. Mantra for the week: the real measure of managing your time well isn’t doing more, it’s neglecting the right things on purpose. Fun P.S.Madison and I were wandering our hotel property at 11:30pm looking for a white peacock some rumor said lived there. We found a whole group of peacocks asleep up in the trees, and Madison started talking to them in their own voice. They responded. A random girl walking back to the hotel got roped into the whole adventure with us. We were both shook. Ten out of ten peacock encounter. That’s it for me. Go be a little more honest about what you actually want. Working parent. Marathon finisher. Systems builder.I document what it actually looks like to close the gap between the life you keep picturing and the one you're living.
Hey you, Some weeks you do it all. This wasn’t one of those weeks. Daycare was closed, work stayed busy, and we packed up and drove to Oklahoma City to see family. Somewhere in there, content just had to wait. I used to feel guilty about weeks like this. This time I didn’t. I’m okay with that, and I think you should be too when your weeks look like this. One Thing to Think About This Week I watched a TEDx talk this week that was tooooo damn good. Dr. Kim Foster talked about why change doesn’t...
Hey you, I turned 42 this week, and somewhere between the candles and the math of “if I live to 100, that’s 42% done,” I had a whole moment. More on that below. One Thing to Think About This Week 42 years old. If I live to be 100, that’s 42% complete. Scary to think about… but honestly? Motivating too. It made me realize how easy it is to coast on “I’ll get to it eventually.” Mobility work. Gratefulness. Flossing your damn teeth. The tiny stuff that feels optional until you’re 80 wishing...
Hey you, This week I finally named the thing quietly sabotaging me since the marathon, and it wasn’t motivation. It was research. Turns out you can “plan” your way into being completely stuck. One Thing to Think About This Week I was talking to a friend about my YouTube rut and the recent realization that I’ve been taking in so much creator advice… all of it good, all of it well-intentioned, and it kept me stuck instead of setting me free. I gave him an example. Told him about a creator who...
